Most businesses start with an idea. Ours started with a mistake.
A few years ago, we planned a two-week trip overseas. We booked what looked like a reputable pet hotel. It had good reviews, climate-controlled rooms, and even webcam access.
We thought we were doing the right thing. But when we came home, everything had changed.
“Our cats, usually shy but curious, were withdrawn. One hid for two days. The other refused to eat her usual food. It felt like we’d broken something.”
— Yana, Club Lumo co-founder
That experience stayed with us. So we started asking other cat owners about their travel routines and we heard the same story again and again: “There has to be a better way.”
The Core Idea
Cats don’t need pampering. They need familiarity.
They don’t want a new room. They want their old blanket. They don’t need “five-star suites.” They need their usual window view, food bowl, and routine.
“Cats are territorial. Their stress levels rise dramatically when removed from their environment, even if the new place looks ‘nicer’ to humans.”
— International Cat Care (iCatCare)
That’s why we built Club Lumo: a cat-first sitting service that keeps your cat where they’re happiest: their home.
What We Believe
- Trust is built through consistency. We send the same sitter whenever possible.
- Transparency matters. Every visit is documented with detailed updates.
- Routines bring calm. We follow the same schedule every day.
- Care should feel invisible. Your cat stays relaxed, your home stays undisturbed.
The Name: Lumo
The origin of the name Lumo is actually a portmanteau of Lulu and Momo, our two dearest cats who passed away a couple of years ago.
It works well because we realised later that it's a play on “lumen” (light) and “home.” To us, it represents a soft light left on, a quiet presence, a guardian for your cat when you’re away.
We’re not a tech startup. We’re not a mass marketplace. We’re a team of people who know what it’s like to feel guilty after a trip—and who want to make sure you never feel that again.
What Sets Us Apart
- We don’t sit dogs or reptiles. Just cats. It’s what we know.
- We train our sitters on feline body language, emergency protocols, and stress signals.
- We prioritise emotional wellbeing, not just logistics.
“I used to feel nervous and guilty leaving. Now we use Lumo even for ourselves.”
— Thomas, Club Lumo co-founder
Final Thought
We didn’t set out to start a business. We set out to fix something that we struggled with when planning for our next trip.
Now, cat parents in Singapore trust us with what matters most—their feline family. And we don’t take that lightly.
Thank you for being part of the journey. And if you haven’t yet, we’d love to meet your cat.
